Modern car keys are fundamentally different from ordinary car keys from the 90s. They have a massive plastic housing, which is a multifunctional and mechanical part /the key itself/. The functions are as follows: unlocks and locks mechanically all available locks; has a built-in chip /transponder/ that allows the engine to be started and has a remote control that controls the central locking and signaling of the car.
